This installation is made up of 1000 flip-flops installed for Imagine Peace Festival 2014 at Pui O Wetlands in Hong Kong. The discarded soles have been collected during only 3 beach clean-ups on Lantau’s South coast. The flip-flops are not coloured or changed in any way; they are merely sorted by colour and re-arranged into a new visual reality.
“I use flip-flops as an art material as they can be read as the environmental footprint we as humans leave behind. Being mass-produced, cheap and a synthetic throw-away product, they are a perfect symbol for the distance we create between ourselves and the earth.”
